Before talking about Glassnote Records or by their full name “Glassnote Entertainment Group”, it will be better to talk about it’s founder Daniel Glass:
He started to his career as a dance Dj and then became a radio show host. Later on, he became an executive in American music industry where he made a great effort in it. He worked with artists like Billy Idol, Sinéad O’Connor, Jon Secada, Blur, Goldfinger, Erykah Badu... After working with five different record labels he decided to found his own label, Glassnote.
Glassnote is a New Yorke based independent alternative music-focused record label. For distribution they make use of Sony Music’s network which it means they are more accessible as against to the other independent record labels. The label focus their attention on alternative rock, indie rock and lately on hip hop. Considering their short history we can say they had a huge success by looking at their awards and artists who work with. Grammy winning French band Phoenix is an example. By their “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix” album they won “The Best Alternative Music Album” award at Grammys in 2010. Also the label won “The Best Indie Record Label” award by Rolling Stones magazine in 2011.
“We don't want to be big, but we want to be great”... According to Daniel Glass’ sentence and this record label which has a vision of staying small, we can say that it’s not necessary to be big to get succeed. Glass says “we are trying to provide our listeners to watch and listen musicians live” for his marketing plans. Glassnote cares team spirit a lot. That’s why they keep the musicians and bands at a certain number and that’s how they can allow enough time to their stage traffics and album works. Beside the artists who are successful or have potentials, the label also makes no compromises on sound quality in the albums which will be published.
Recently they work with musicians and bands like; Phoenix, Mumford & Sons, Two Door Cinema Club, Givers, The Temper Trap, Oberhofer, Childish Gambino, Daughter, Robert DeLong, Little Green Cars, Justin Nozuka, Flight Facilities, Jesse Marco, Half Moon Run, Chvrches, Foy Vance, Jeremy Messersmith, Flo Morrissey.
