Mdou Moctar

Mdou Moctar, the Nigerian star of Desert Blues, takes the Babylon stage on December 17!

Nigerian musician Mdou Moctar serves traditional Tuareg music with a twist of blues and rock. He developed his unique technique by building his first guitar on his own with bicycle parts and recorded his debut album, Anar, in 2008. Many of the songs on this album were shared as MP3 files person-to-person throughout Niger via Bluetooth, turning Moctar into an urban legend. A few years later, Sahel Sounds released Music from Saharan Cellphones: Volume 1, which introduced him to a global audience.

Over the years, Mdou Moctar never stopped composing, recording, and touring with his band, performing at major festivals. He has become a prominent figure in the genre known as “Desert Blues”. He has been a member of the Matador Records family since 2021. His seventh studio album, Funeral for Justice, released in May, is perhaps the most passionate work Moctar and his team have recorded to date. As the songs go by, the listener can feel this intense passion and that the musicians are on fire. There is no doubt that this fiery passion will captivate the audience as it grows even bigger on stage.

Tickets are available at Biletix, Passo, Mobilet and Biletino!
