Doğan Duru

A night painted with songs: Doğan Duru at Babylon on March 26

After receiving his education in Turkey and Italy, Doğan Duru spent many years performing in operas, musicals, and vocal recitals. He is best known for Redd, a band that has been active since 1996 and released its debut album 50/50, in 2005. As the vocalist, bassist, and lyricist of Redd—one of the bands shaping the course of modern Turkish music—Duru has not only contributed to the band's productions but also composed music for films and TV series, winning numerous awards. His latest achievement in this field, the soundtrack of Son Hasat (2003), directed by Cemil Ağacıkoğlu, won Best Original Score at the 43rd Istanbul Film Festival.

Duru embarked on his solo career in 2020 with his debut titled Epoch. Describing the album as “an attempt to individualize, like a painter or a novelist”, he emphasizes how it emotionally diverges from the sound of Redd, carrying a deeply melancholic tone. His second solo album, Kafesine Uçan Kuş, was released in 2022. Featuring 15 tracks, Duru handled not only the composition and arrangements but also played all the instruments and mixed the album himself. He likens it to a wall he painted on his own.

Doğan Duru, who most recently collaborated with Zuhal Olcay on the duet “Kutsal Zehir”, is set to take the Babylon stage on March 26.
