Sun Ra Arkestra Halloween in Harlem

Take the cosmic jazz train with the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra on October 31!

Known for his cosmic philosophy and interplanetary music, Sun Ra remains a unique and shining light in the jazz world. From the mid-1950s to when he left the planet in 1993, Sun Ra led The Arkestra, an ensemble with an ever-changing lineup and name. His music touched on virtually the entire history of jazz, from bebop to free jazz, and he was also a pioneer in electronic music, space music, and free improvisation. As one of the key figures in 1960s avant-garde jazz, Sun Ra wrote a pioneering chapter in the canon of Afrofuturism as a composer, instrumentalist, poet, and philosopher.

The spirit of Sun Ra is alive and well in the present-day manifestation of the Sun Ra Arkestra, led by alto saxophone legend Marshall Allen, who celebrated his 100th birthday this year, and saxophone maestro Knoel Scott. Don’t miss this spiritual and sonic journey featuring a mix of classic Sun Ra compositions and arrangements, alongside a selection of tunes deeply rooted in the spirit of Sun Ra. We advise you to get your costumes ready in advance to turn this special “Halloween in Harlem” event into a cosmic and unforgettable Halloween Party!

Tickets are available at Biletix, Passo, Mobilet, and Biletino!
