Shigeto
Growing up with his father's Motown and jazz vinyls, Zack Saginaw came onto the Detroit music scene with various bands after starting to play drums. After the musician, who studied jazz at The New School in New York City, was introduced to electronic music and production in London, "Shigeto" began. Meaning "to grow up", the word shigeto sums up the artist's music. Both on Dave Douglas's High Risk album and on Intermission, his own release from last year, Shigeto blends hip-hop and funk rhythms with synth, percussion and sounds recorded in the streets, all while staying true to his jazz roots.
Heathered Pearls
Born in Poland and growing up in Brooklyn, Jakub Alexander is a new talent on Ghostly International. Having released his first album, Loyal, in 2012 under the pseudonym “Heathered Pearls”, Alexander creates his own interpretation of ambient music, going against the "pure moods" cliché commonly associated with the genre. Whereas Loyal was reminiscent of the sound of far-away ocean waves at night, Heathered Pearls offered his fans higher-paced tracks with a touch of techno on his second album, Body Complex, which was released this year.
Lord RAJA
While living in New York, 22-year-old Chester Raj Anand, released recordings under the name “InfinitiRock” through Asthmatic Kitty Records in 2011. Joining Ghostly International in 2014, the young musician shared his first LP, A Constant Moth, with music lovers under the name Lord RAJA. Enriching classic hip-hop rhythms with ambient, glitch and synth, Lord RAJA is one of the best embodiments of Ghostly International's style.
