Kanto Records presents: Shock Kulturel

We’re embarking on a journey towards a spectrum of sounds from various cultures and different periods in the first event beyond genres of the “ShocK•ꓘulturel” project, presented by Istanbul and Ibiza based record label Kanto Records. We’re meeting with the duo Orçun Barni and Kamer Kaya, Yalnayak, talking rocks and Oceanvs Orientalis on the night of May 20th!

Following its first event in Paris, and for the first time in Istanbul, ShocK•ꓘulturel creates a visual and auditory universe beyond musical genres and notions. Creating novelties by collating music forms from different geographies, the project enables an audiovisual performance space for artists who embark on the experimental field of discovering their own methods in their compositions and interpretations. The night will kick off with the duo Orçun Barni and Kamer Kaya, new members of Kanto Records, a collective that doesn’t believe in defined forms, and will continue with Yalnayak, blending electronic, psychedelic rock and funk vibes in their sound. Following the performance of talking rocks, who are brings electronica together with rhythms and melodies from Anatolia, our sonic experience will proceed with Oceanvs Orientalis, who will be taking stage in Istanbul after a long time with a performance full of surprises.

Oceanvs Orientalis (Live)

Producer, arranger and composer Şafak Özkütle’s project Oceanvs Orientalis is one of the foremost names of the electronic music world with his unique productions and remixes that question the aesthetic perception in music theory. Possessing a creative space born that follows from one-person-multi-mind action, the musician believes that everything comes from the East and accommodates archaeological elements from music history in his sound. Oceanvs Orientalis uses electronic music to carry the old vibes he grew up with to the dancefloor, transforming irregular local rhythms into 4/4 electronic beats

talking rocks

Founded by Ikaru's Alptug Cavus, talking rocks aim to create soundscapes where ancient tales meets future machines. He carries his guitar player and vocal performer background to the studio and live performances and fascinated by using frequencies as a tool for communication. His music can be described as a fusion of psychedelia and Anatolian Blues music mixed with electronic structures and dance beats.

Yalnayak

Yalnayak was born with the gathering of Damla Temel’s vocals, Netam’s arrangements feeding on electronic sounds, Batuhan Camcı’s dynamic bass grooves and Semih Düz’s funky guitar riffs. Taking inspiration from the various melodies of Anatolia, the psychedelic funk and rock band started to release their singles in 2021. Sharing their sonic world with the audience by releasing their single “Mars’ta Değilim”, Yalnayak entered the global music radar with their single entitled “Binboğa”.

Orçun Barni & Kamer Kaya

Musically questioning the borders of geography, religion and ethnicity, Orçun Barni and Kamer Kaya released their EP “Belacqua”, inspired by Dante’s “Inferno”, in the last months of 2022 under Kanto Records. They exlpore themes such as the indecisive hanging on the borders of concepts like life and death, hell and paradise in their compositions. The duo presents a hybrid view of electronica in their sound that entwines Gregorian melodies, elements of Anatolian sufism, and learnings of Asian and European cultures with distorted guitars and keyboards.
