Gonjasufi also known as Sumach Valentine is a rapper, singer, disc jockey and yoga teacher from San Diego, California and currently residing in Nevada.
Gonjasufi was born to a Mexican mother and an American-Ethiopian father. He has been releasing music since the early 1990s in the San Diego underground Hip Hop scene. He gained notice from Warp Records in 2008 after an appearance on Californian musician Flying Lotus' album Los Angeles, where he sings on the track "Testament". His Warp debut album, ‘A Sufi and a Killer’ was released on March 8, 2010. And directly it was praised by the music circles with his unique voice and vocal techniques. Gonjasufi is a pioneer combining indie, IDM, eclectic music and of course Hip-Hop. Gonjasufi’s Babylon performance will be one of the most interesting performances that took place in İstanbul. Opening act of the night is Turkey’s own hip-hop and mash-up act Grup Ses.
