Get lost in the moment and dance with Sofia Kourtesis!

Born in Peru and based in Berlin, leftfield house producer and DJ Sofia Kourtesis creates productions that are not only oriented towards the dance floor, but also meditative and politically charged. Kourtesis began her career in the hip-hop scene in Germany, where she studied cinema, before transitioning to club music. She started DJing professionally after booking gigs at two clubs in Hamburg.

Her productions blend various movie samples with intense basslines and she began releasing her work through thematic EPs in 2019. The pinnacle of Sofia Kourtesis’ career to date is, though, undoubtedly her debut full-length, Madres, released in 2023 on Ninja Tune. It is an album that combines elements of house and garage but we should also note that it is much warmer, and much more fierce compared to its European counterparts. It explores themes of family, nightlife and social issues, with some tracks serving as tributes to specific people and places in her personal journey.

Sofia Kourtesis will be performing a DJ Set for her Istanbul audience. In an interview with Nothing But Hope and Passion magazine last year, she described her DJing experience with the following words: “When I’m in the booth, I am very concentrated. Sometimes I get lost in the moment and I feel the beautiful energy.” Get ready to get lost in the moment with Sofia Kourtesis, one of the most remarkable creators of modern electronic music.
