İlhan Erşahin’s Istanbul Sessions will sweep you off your feet on November 6 at Babylon!
İlhan Erşahin is a musician who constantly seeks renewal and explores various forms of expression. He has demonstrated this with thematic projects such as Wax Poetic, Love Trio, Nublu Orchestra, Praia Futuro and Silver. In 2005, İlhan Erşahin founded Istanbul Sessions to initiate a “session group” he could play with as a different project from what he had done so far. In the band, which released its first album in 2010, Erşahin is accompanied by Alp Ersönmez, Turgut Alp Bekoğlu, and İzzet Kızıl.
French trumpeter Erik Truffaz described them as “If Radiohead were playing jazz, they would sound like this.” He’s not wrong. Istanbul Sessions draws inspiration from diverse sources and eras, creating a unique sound that transcends genres. For example their fifth studio album, Once Upon a Time Now, released during the pandemic, features songs that are named after Anatolian and Mesopotamian civilizations, taking listeners on a transhistorical journey. With Erşahin’s freeform jazz riffs, Ersönmez’s groovy bass, Bekoğlu’s powerful drums and Kızıl’s agile percussion, Istanbul Sessions grows ever more impressive on stage and elevates the audience.
Tickets are at Biletix, Passo, Mobilet and Biletino!
